Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement:
“Canada’s Conservatives are concerned about the violence seen in Kathmandu and elsewhere in Nepal, which included the killing of at least 19 protesters, with many hundreds more injured. There are allegations that the use of force by security forces was unnecessary and disproportionate.
“Nepal’s government has a history of committing a documented range of human rights violations, including the use of arbitrary detention, unlawful killings, crackdowns on free expression, and other corrupt practices.
“Conservatives will always stand for the universal human rights of peaceful assembly and free expression. We call on all sides to end the violence, avoid further escalation, and to negotiate a peaceful resolution to this crisis.”
