What is the status of the Leadership Election?

The Leadership Election Organizing Committee (LEOC) was appointed on by the Party’s National Council on February 16th, 2022. The LEOC, pursuant to section 10.9.2 of our Constitution, is responsible for conducting the Leadership Election Process.

When will the new Leader be elected?

Results of the Leadership Election will be announced on September 10th, 2022.

There are several steps to the Leadership Election process.

The cutoff date to join the party and vote was June 3rd, 2022. After that date, the membership list was compiled into a voters list, and ballots prepared for the mail.

Ballots are currently being mailed to voters. Ballots will need to be completed and returned to the Conservative Party of Canada c/o Deloitte by 5 PM EDT on September 6th, 2022.

The results of the Election will be announced on September 10th, 2022 as soon as the ballots can be properly processed and examined by scrutineers.

When will the ballots be mailed? When will I receive my ballot?

The Party has already started sending ballots by mail. You should routinely check your mailbox and expect to receive yours by August 3rd. If you have not received your ballot by that date, and you are a member in good standing of the Party, please click here to report your missing ballot.

I am currently a member of the Party in good standing. Is there anything I need to do to request my ballot?

No, you do not need to request. Your ballot will be mailed to your mailing address.

Am I eligible to vote?

In order to be eligible to vote, you must have been a member in good standing of the Conservative Party of Canada as of June 3rd, 2022, 11:59 pm, EDT. You can verify your membership status here, or contact the National Service Desk by filing out the ‘Contact Us’ form below.

How will I cast my vote?

Voting for the next Leader of the Conservative Party is being conducted by mail, as required by the Constitution of our Party.

Our Leader will be elected by a one member, one vote method of voting using a single, secret and preferential ballot system. Each Electoral District will be allocated 100 points or 1 point per vote cast at each voting round, whichever is less.

Leadership Candidates will be assigned a point total based on their percentage of the vote in each electoral district. To win the Leadership, a Candidate must obtain a majority of points available from across the country.

I am a member of the Party in good standing and I have not received my voting package / ballot. What should I do?

If you have not received your voting package, including your ballot, in the mail by August 3rd, 2022, please read carefully BEFORE communicating with the Conservative Party of Canada.

  1. Address Change: Members cannot request a new voting package / ballot due to an address change or vacation away from home. The deadline to change an address was the 15th of June.

  2. My voting package / My Ballot has not arrived: If a member in good standing has not received a voting package / ballot, please wait until after August 3rd to submit a ballot reprint request in order to give Canada Post a chance to deliver all of the mail.

  3. Incorrect use of Family Membership – A member who joined the Party on a family membership form cannot request a new voting package / ballot to an address different from that of the family. The requirement of “family membership” category is that all members live at the same address. If this turns out not be the case, the member is not eligible to vote.

  4. Requests for Voting Packages / Ballots: All requests must be submitted online at https://www.conservative.ca/ballot-reprint/. Those requesting a replacement voting package / ballot must complete all fields. Only requests that are completed through this form will be considered.

  5. Ballot Reprint Deadline: Those requesting a replacement voting package / ballot must submit their request by August 23rd, 2022 at 5 PM (EDT) in order to be considered.

I am a member of the Party in good standing; how do I vote?

Eligible Conservative Party of Canada Members will receive a voting ballot in the mail. Members will make their selection for Leader and return their ballot, a photocopy of their ID, and a signed declaration form in the envelopes provided in the ballot package.

All ballots must be returned to the Party by 5 PM (EDT) on September 6th, 2022. The Leadership Election results will be announced on September 10th, 2022.

What do I need to vote?

By August 3rd, eligible members will receive a voting package in the mail that contains instructions, a voting ballot as well as a prepaid privacy envelope to return your ballot discreetly. You will be asked to return and include a photocopy/scan of a piece of ID to confirm your identity.

Can a parent/guardian sign the declaration on behalf of an eligible voter who is a minor?

No. The declaration signature and identification provided must match the name of the member in order to be accepted.

I donate to the party regularly/make a monthly contribution. Does this make me eligible to vote?

Donors to the Conservative Party are not automatically members are and are not automatically eligible to vote. To vote in the Leadership Election you must have purchased a membership by June 3rd, 2022.

I have a provincial conservative party membership; does that make me eligible to vote in the Conservative Party of Canada’s leadership race?

No. You must hold an active federal Conservative Party of Canada membership by June 3rd, 2022 to be eligible to receive a ballot for the 2022 Conservative Party of Canada’s Leadership Election.
