What is the status of the Leadership Election?

The Leadership Election Organizing Committee (LEOC) was appointed on by the party’s National Council on February 16th, 2022. The LEOC, pursuant to section 10.9.2 of our Constitution, is responsible for conducting the Leadership Election Process.

When will a new leader be elected?

Results of the leadership election will be announced on September 10, 2022.

There are several steps to the Leadership Election process.

The cutoff date to join the party and vote is June 3, 2022. After that date, the membership list will be compiled into a voters list, and ballots prepared for the mail.

Ballots will be mailed to voter mid-summer 2022. Ballots will need to be completed and returned to the Conservative Party of Canada c/o Deloitte by 5 PM ET on September 7th, 2022.

The results of the election will be announced on September 10th, 2022 as soon as the ballots can be properly processed and examined by scrutineers.

How will I cast my vote?

Voting for the next leader of the Conservative Party will be conducted by mail, as required by the constitution of our Party.

Our leader will be elected by a one member, one vote method of voting using a single, secret and preferential ballot system, send via mail. Each Electoral District will be allocated 100 points or 1 point per vote cast at each voting round, whichever is less.

Leadership Candidates will be assigned a point total based on their percentage of the vote in each electoral district. To win the leadership, a Candidate must obtain a majority of points available from across the country.

Am I eligible to vote?

In order to be eligible to vote, you must be a member in good standing of the Conservative Party of Canada as of June 3rd, 2022, 11:59 pm, EST. You can verify your membership status here, or contact the National Service Desk by filing out the ‘Contact Us’ form below.

I donate to the party regularly/make a monthly contribution. Does this make me eligible to vote?

Donors to the Conservative Party are not automatically members are and are not eligible to vote. To vote in the Leadership election you must purchase a membership by June 3rd, 2022.

Can I buy a membership for a family member?

You can take out a membership on behalf of yourself, your spouse, and up to three minor aged children that live with you, as long as it is done at the same time. Your family members will still need to provide valid identification to be able to vote. Any family members who do not live with you will need to sign themselves up with payment methods in their own names (including adult children who live at home or are off at college).

Who can join the Conservative Party of Canada and Vote?

To become a member of the Conservative Party of Canada you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, support our party’s founding principles, pay the required fee from your own personal funds, and not hold membership in another Canadian federal political party. Additionally, to join the party and be eligible to vote, you must be 14 years of age or older on June 3, 2022.

How can I take out a membership if I don’t have a credit card?

You can visit us online and download a copy of our membership form and mail it to us at the address below. You can return this form with a cheque made out to ‘Conservative Fund Canada’ to our Address by June 3rd, 2022.

I am a member of the Party; how do I vote?

Eligible Conservative Party of Canada Members will receive a voting ballot in the mail in mid-summer, 2022. Members will make their selection for leader and return their ballot, a photocopy of their ID and a signed declaration form envelopes provided in the ballot package.

All ballots must be returned to the party by 5 PM ET on September 7th, 2022. The Leadership Election results will be announced on September 10th, 2022.

When will ballots be mailed? When will I receive my ballot?

The party will begin sending ballots in Summer 2022. You should routinely check your mailbox and expect to receive yours by the mid of August at the latest. If you have not received your ballot by August 15, and you are a member, please click here to report your missing ballot.

I have a provincial party membership? Does that make me eligible to vote in the Conservative Party of Canada’s leadership race?

No. You must hold an active federal Conservative Party of Canada membership by June 3rd, 2022 to be eligible to receive a ballot for the 2022 Conservative Party of Canada’s Leadership Election.

I am currently an active member of the party. Is there anything I need to do to request my ballot?

No, you do not need to request. Your ballot will be mailed to your mailing address after the membership deadline passes, in the Summer of 2022.

How do I update my mailing and/or residential address?

Please note: the deadline for Party members to update their mailing and/or residential address and receive their ballot at the updated address and/or with the updated information, is June 15th, 2022 at 5 PM (ET)

What do I need to vote?

Mid-summer, eligible members will receive a voting package in the mail that contains instructions, a voting ballot as well as a prepaid privacy envelope to return your ballot discreetly. You will be asked to return and include a photocopy/scan of a piece of ID to confirm your identity.

What is the minimum age for voting in the 2022 Conservative Party of Canada Leadership Election?

Individuals 14 years of age or older as of June 3, 2022 may purchase a membership to be eligible to vote in the 2022 Conservative Party of Canada Leadership Election.

Can a parent/guardian sign the declaration on behalf of an eligible voter who is a minor?

No. The declaration signature and identification provided must match the name of the member in order to be accepted.


When will the Leadership Debates take place?

An English debate has been scheduled on May 11th and a French debate has been schedules on May 25th, 2022. Both debates will be held at 8 PM ET
