Our Commitment to Protecting Your Privacy
Your privacy is important to us. The Conservative Party of Canada, including persons or organizations acting on our behalf, such as candidates, electoral district associations (“riding associations”), officers, agents, employees, volunteers, and representatives (collectively, the “Conservative Party”, “Party”, “we” or “us”) will respect your privacy through the protection of any of your personal information that you provide to us. We take great care to keep both confidential and secure all personal information in our possession. As a federal political party registered under the Canada Elections Act, the Conservative Party is subject to extensive regulation under that Act, including in particular public disclosure requirements for contributions over $200. This Privacy Policy applies to all personal information that is collected, used, or disclosed by the Conservative Party, whether it is collected electronically via our website or other digital platforms(each, a “Site”), in person or by telephone. It applies to each Site on which it is posted.
What “Personal Information” Do We Collect
“Personal information” is information about an identifiable individual.
It includes personal contact information that we collect such as an individual’s name, address, email address and telephone number. We may also collect information regarding your residence, family members, language preference, political views or affiliation, voting preferences, donations, and related financial information (like payment method and billing information) and other information you choose to share with us.
Collecting Personal Information
Elections Canada provides all political parties with lists of electors, including names and postal addresses. In addition, we generally collect personal information directly from individuals. We may also collect personal information from publicly available data or sources.
We collect personal information from members and donors when they purchase a membership or contribute to our Party. You may also choose to provide us with personal information on a voluntary basis, such as when registering for an event, signing a petition, or otherwise completing a form on a Site. We are required by law to keep records of donors for tax purposes.
If you submit your e-mail address and/or personal information through one of our Sites, you consent to being added to our e-mail list. You may unsubscribe from our e-mail list at any time using the link provided in each email message, or by clicking here.
Usage and Disclosure of Personal Information
We use your personal information to communicate with you. As a political party, we believe it is important to communicate with Canadians on a regular basis.
Our database and lists generated from it are used for political activities such as fundraising, volunteer drives and canvassing, in addition to customizing our supporter or member experience.
As a national organization with a riding-based membership system, your personal information may be used and disclosed within our Party (such as to local riding associations, candidates, nomination contestants and leadership contestants) who may also communicate with you.
For example, where your personal information is collected by our local riding associations, candidates, nomination contestants or leadership contestants, that information may be shared within the Conservative Party.
Your personal information may be used by third party service providers that we engage for limited purposes, such as website hosts, analytics, and email service providers, in accordance with our agreements with those service providers that restrict the use of your personal information and require the implementation of appropriate security safeguards.
Additionally, non-personal information may be collected by the Conservative Party through the use of cookies, including third-party cookies. Cookies allow us to track how people are using our Site and help us deliver better and more customized content to our visitors. We may use this information, in aggregate, to improve our Site or to assist in advertising. Visitors can opt-out of many of the advertising features used by the Site and others by adjusting their Google Ads Settings, or using the free opt-out tool offered by the Digital Advertising Alliance at https://youradchoices.ca/en/tools.
Protecting your Personal Information
We maintain physical, organizational, and technological security systems to safeguard your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, or misuse, and from loss or unauthorized alteration. This includes encrypting electronic data, keeping paper information in locked filing cabinets, limiting who in the Party has access to it, and utilizing network protections and firewalls.
Employees and volunteers of the Conservative Party are trained in the appropriate use of personal information. This training emphasizes appropriate collection, use, disclosure, safeguarding, retention, and destruction of personal information. In the event we share personal information with third party service providers, we ensure that written contracts include provisions to safeguard that personal information.
We will not sell your personal information that you have chosen to provide to us to third parties.
Accuracy of Personal Information
We always try to keep your personal information accurate and up to date. If you wish to update your personal information, contact us by e-mail at [email protected].
