Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, released the following statement on National Acadian Day:

L’union fait la force – strength through unity – is a motto that has resonated across our country and across generations.

“Today, the culture, food and music of hundreds of thousands of Acadians are woven into the fabric of Atlantic Canada, forming one of the foundational pillars of the Canadian family.

“Despite the trauma of the Great Upheaval, Acadians have remained a resilient, cheerful and proud community.

“From the very birth of our country, they have played an indispensable role in shaping Canadian bilingualism: proof that both languages can coexist, mutually respectful of one another.

“So today, whether they’re enjoying lobster or a beautiful view of the sea, we say to all Acadians, in the words of the great signer-songwriter Cayouche, ‘C’est ça mon Acadie!’”
