Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, released the following statement commemorating Alberta Day:

“On September 1st, 1905, Alberta became a province of Canada. In the generations since, Albertans have helped build a stronger, freer and more prosperous country for all Canadians.

“From the farmers and ranchers who turn prairie grass into food for the world, to the energy workers who power our homes and communities, to the entrepreneurs who create jobs and opportunity, Alberta is built by people who work hard, take risks and don’t wait for permission to get things done.

“It is a province defined by perseverance, freedom and courage.

“That spirit runs through Alberta’s history, from the pioneers who braved the harsh winters to build great western Canadian cities, to the Famous Five who fought for equality and changed Canadian history, to the Albertans who have served, and continue to serve, in uniform to defend our freedoms.

“It is reflected in Alberta’s motto, Fortis et Liber  Strong and Free.

“Albertans should take pride in that legacy, and in the history, culture and traditions that make this province remarkable. Today, we celebrate the people who built Alberta, their contributions to Canada and the generations carrying that work forward.

“On Alberta Day, let us celebrate all that Albertans have achieved and look forward to a future where Alberta is stronger within a united Canada.

“Happy Alberta Day!”
