Dave Blackburn

Dave Blackburn, holds a doctorate in social science with a specialization in sociology of health from the University of Luxembourg jointly coordinated with the School of Social Services of Université Laval. He is currently an associate professor and researcher in mental health and psychosocial intervention among the military, veterans, emergency responders and their families at Université du Québec en Outaouais.

In November 2017, he founded the Research and intervention team in the mental health of veterans and their families. Dave Blackburn was an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces; he was deployed to Afghanistan in 2006, Germany in 2007 and Chypre in 2012.

Over the course of his career, Blackburn has received many recognition awards such as the Gaston-Miron French Excellence prize, the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation in 2016, Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012, the University of Ottawa alumni association Young Alumni Award in 2012, the National Defense and Canadian Forces Ombudsman Memorial Commendation in 2010 as well as being finalist for the Quebec Award for Citizenship in 2005.
