Ottawa, ON – Dan Mazier, Conservative Shadow Minister for Health, issued the following statement in response to Liberal Health Minister Marjorie Michele’s testimony at the Health Committee, where she refused to rule out approving more fentanyl consumption sites next to schools and daycares:

According to Health Canada, fentanyl is the most used drug in Liberal-approved consumption sites, with over 48% of visits involving fentanyl use. Yet today, Mark Carney’s Health Minister refused to stop approving fentanyl consumption sites next to schools and daycares, despite having the power to do so.

“The Health Minister admitted that she is aware that fentanyl is the most used drug in federally approved consumption sites, but still refuses to stop allowing these fentanyl drug dens next to children.

“Shockingly, the Minister also revealed she doesn’t personally review consumption site applications before her department approves them, proving how out of touch she is from the realities of this issue.

“Allowing fentanyl consumption sites next to children is dangerous and unacceptable. Conservatives are calling on the Prime Minister to shut down drug dens next to children, now.”
