Mississauga, ON – Today, the Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, and Arpan Khanna, Member of Parliament for Oxford and Conservative National Outreach Chair, sent a letter to the Prime Minister urging him to vote for a Conservative motion that will rapidly pass the Jail Not Bail Act (Bill C-242). Canadians need the failed Liberal bail regime ended—and the first steps can happen tomorrow. The letter can be found here.

“Canadians deserve to feel safe in their homes, parks and streets. After years of Liberal catch-and-release, they don’t,” said Poilievre. “The government’s bail regime—anchored in Bill C-75’s rule to release offenders at the ‘earliest opportunity, under the least onerous conditions’—has put repeat violent offenders back on our streets again and again, with tragic and preventable consequences.”

This morning, Poilievre will visit Peel Region, where, since the Liberals took power; violent crime is up 104%, extortion is up 476%, vehicle theft is up 293% and firearm offences are up 723%. The Peel Regional Police and End Violence Everywhere support MP Khanna’s call to scrap Liberal bail and pass the Jail not Bail Act immediately.

This afternoon in Surrey, MP Khanna will host his first town hall.

“To keep pressure on the government to end its weak justice policies, I’m launching my Jail Not Bail town hall series so Canadians can hear directly how C-242 restores safe streets, peace of mind for families and justice for victims.”

C-242 repeals the failed Liberal “principle of restraint,” strengthens bail for major violent and organized crimes like extortion and home invasion, requires judges to consider an accused’s criminal history and stops prolific offenders from vouching for other criminals.

Law enforcement and survivors across Canada see firsthand the damage done by the Liberal bail system and know why C-242 must pass quickly.

“We support this bill as it strengthens Canada’s bail system by ensuring that public safety is prioritized in decisions about interim release…By addressing repeat and violent offenders, it closes critical gaps that have too often placed our communities and victims at risk. These amendments represent a necessary step toward greater accountability, protection and confidence in our justice system.”
– Debbie Henderson, family spokesperson and aunt of Bailey McCourt

“Our family is living with a permanent hole in our hearts because of a tragedy that should never have happened. The person who took our loved one’s life was out on probation, waiting for detox treatment – yet still free to cause irreversible harm. We support the Jail Not Bail Act because it puts victims and public safety first. This bill is not just policy – it’s a lifeline for future victims, and a promise that their lives will matter.”
– C Trang, advocate and daughter of murder victim Hung Trang

“The Jail Not Bail Act is therefore more than legislation — it is an essential corrective- a lifeline capable of disrupting the revolving door of abuse and saving innocent lives.”
– Cait Alexander, End Violence Everywhere

“The proposed ideas will put victims and communities first, restoring the balance that is desperately needed at a time when youth violence and gun crimes are out of control and innocent victims are paying the ultimate price. We would encourage all levels of government to set aside their political differences and do what’s right.”

– Toronto Police Association

Tomorrow, Liberals must choose: stand with law-abiding Canadians to restore safe communities—or keep releasing violent repeat offenders onto our streets.

“The Prime Minister promised decisive action and delivered nothing. Scrap Liberal bail and pass our bill. If you won’t support it, get out of the way and let Parliament do its job.” Poilievre concluded.
