Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, released the following statement on Small Business Week:

“This week, Canada celebrates those who bet on themselves. From the smallest villages to our biggest cities, small businesses are the engine of our economy and the heart of our communities. These are the neighbours that sponsor the minor hockey league, hire the local teenager for their first summer job and keep the lights on downtown.

“They are the hardware store on Main Street, helping neighbours keep their homes in shape. The bakery that fills the sidewalk with the smell of fresh bread. The plumber who opened up their own shop, helping to open drain pipes after a clog.

“Any one of these people can tell you the sacrifice that this comes with. Long hours, on evenings and weekends, hours that belong to the business instead of family. Crunching numbers, trying to find a way to give their employees a raise.

“This country was built by the intrepid people who crossed oceans and came to build a new life. The explorers and entrepreneurs, artists and adventurers, warriors and workers, pioneers and patriots. Self-starters who bet on themselves and wanted something of their own.

“Sadly, too many Canadians are living in a reality where hard work just doesn’t pay what it used to. Conservatives want to change that: by cutting taxes and clearing out the gatekeepers that punish those who create value, so that entrepreneurship is once again rewarded.

“We will restore a country where hard work earns a great life, and where our best and brightest can build the future right here in Canada. To every entrepreneur, owner and worker: thank you for everything you’ve done to grow our communities.

“Happy Small Business Week!”
