Ottawa, ON – Michael Barrett, Conservative Shadow Minister for Veterans Affairs, issued the following statement calling on the government to prioritize Canadian business and veterans following the selection of Allied Universal to provide security for the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA):
“The Trump administration has hurled insults at our military and made unjustified threats against our country. In spite of that, the Liberal government chose to award the security contract for the CRA to a US government-aligned American firm.
“For a difference of less than 1 per cent on a nearly $12 million contract, Allied Universal beat out the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires: a not-for-profit that is the largest non-governmental employer of Canadian veterans.
“Allied Universal has extensive links to Washington, including $83 million USD in contracts with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) through its subsidiary, and $290 million USD in contracts with the Department of Homeland Security in 2026 alone.
“Prioritizing Canadian firms in contracts like these should be a no-brainer, especially one with a proud history of employing our veterans.
“The Prime Minister told Canadians he wants to make Canada ‘our own best customer.’ The Liberals say they’re ‘putting Canadian workers and industries first’. But their actions tell a different story: since Mr Carney took office, six of the ten highest-grossing federal contractors are domiciled in the US.
“Conservatives will always fight to prioritize Canadian workers and businesses, especially those who once wore our nation’s uniform.”
