Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, released the following statement on Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day:
“Each year, Canadians come together to honour the sacrifices of police and peace officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. In the early hours, as flags fly at half mast, police, law enforcement and loved ones from east to west gather to remember the brave men and women who have died protecting our communities.
“Canada is stronger because of the selfless leaders who keep our streets safe, help the helpless and serve their fellow citizens. Today, we commemorate those heroes who put on a uniform knowing the risk, and made the ultimate sacrifice.
“Violence against police and peace officers has become a growing reality across our country. In Toronto alone, more than 600 police officers were injured in the line of duty in the first eight months of the year.
“Conservatives stand with the families and fellow officers who continue to feel their loss. We will always support our police and peace officers and continue to fight for a Canada that is safe, secure and free.”
