Ottawa, ON –The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, released the following statement on Firefighters’ National Memorial Day:
“Firefighters do not serve for recognition. They answer the call and run toward danger, protecting neighbours and strangers alike. Today, we honour their selflessness and remember those who gave their lives in the line of duty.
“This year, as wildfires tore through our forests and threatened communities, Canadian firefighters stepped forward. They remain on the front lines, committed to the safety of their fellow citizens.
“As firefighters from across Canada gather in our nation’s capital, we join in tribute to the fallen. We commemorate those who, in the words of Stephen Spender, ‘wore at their hearts the fire’s centre … and left the vivid air signed with their honour.’
“Conservatives remain committed to ensuring all those who protect our communities during fire season are recognized for their service to public safety.”
