Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, released the following statement on the Anniversary of 9/11 and the National Day of Service:
“In the morning hours of September 11, 2001, the world came to a stop. People stared in disbelief as an appalling terror attack claimed the lives of nearly 3,000, including 24 Canadians.
“Amidst the chaos and uncertainty, brave first responders rushed headfirst into imminent danger to save as many lives as possible. Here in Canada, the generous people of Gander, Newfoundland, gave over 6,000 diverted passengers a temporary home; embodying the hospitality for which their province is so famous.
“The National Day of Service acknowledges the extraordinary and selfless people who came together, both on that day and the days that followed, and inspires all Canadians to carry the spirit of goodwill.
“Conservatives will always choose freedom over fear and light over darkness. We remember every life that was tragically lost and honour the courage that Canadians and Americans summoned in its wake.”
