Austin, TX – Today, the Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition, met with Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
“It was an honour to have the chance to advocate for our nation’s workers and interests here in Austin,” said Poilievre. “Governor Abbott and I had an excellent discussion on the crucial Canada-Texas partnership, and how Canadian energy can fuel both our economies.”
In 2024, Texas was Canada’s second-largest export destination, and our fourth-largest trading partner overall, with $75 USD billion in trade. This included billions in Canadian natural resources and manufactured goods, including nearly $7 USD billion of oil and gas in 2024 alone. Over the past decade, Texas has brought $4.7 USD billion in capital investment to Canada, creating over 6,500 new jobs.
Today’s visit came after Poilievre met with both Democratic and Republican officials and industry stakeholders in Michigan to strengthen Canada’s automotive sector. Yesterday, he toured the South Bow Energy facility in Houston, which brings Alberta crude oil to US refineries.
“With a CUSMA review on the horizon, discussions like this one are more important than ever,” concluded Poilievre. “Our goal is to make Canada strong at home so we have unbreakable leverage abroad.”
