Conservative Leader will speak at 12:40pm in the House, calling on the Liberal government to introduce the Canadian Sovereignty Act so Canadians can succeed in an affordable Canada.
Ottawa, ON – Today, Conservatives will introduce a motion calling on the Liberals to stop delaying and draft legislation that will slash red tape and get government out of the way so Canadians don’t just survive, but thrive with good-paying jobs that allow our workers to afford safe homes and put nutritious food on the table. When we export more, and we build more, incomes go up and life becomes more affordable for Canadians.
The motion calls on the government to make Canada a truly competitive resource-producing nation by repealing anti-development laws to unleash our economy, including:
- The Impact Assessment Act (formerly Bill C-69);
- The Oil Tanker Moratorium Act (formerly Bill C-48);
- The federal industrial carbon tax;
- The oil and gas emissions cap;
- The federal electric vehicle sales mandate;
- The federal plastics manufacturing prohibitions; and
- Federal regulatory restrictions that impede communication and advocacy by Canadian energy companies.
Conservatives have brought forward real solutions. If the Prime Minister is serious about results that match his rhetoric, he should steal Conservative ideas to make that happen.
At a time of geopolitical uncertainty, it is essential that the government does everything possible to unleash our incredible Canadian potential. Instead, the Canadian economy is suffering after a decade of bad Liberal laws that are crushing our workers, killing jobs, and stifling innovation. It takes 19 years to approve a new mine, and these same laws block us from exporting our energy to new customers overseas, flying directly in the face of the Prime Minister’s stated rhetoric about “diversifying trade.” Meanwhile, President Trump’s unjustified tariffs against our country have more than doubled.
The results aren’t just lines going down on a screen. Recent Employment Insurance (EI) figures showed that almost 600,000 Canadians are now receiving EI – and more than double that number are out of work. Last year, Canadian food banks saw more than two million visits in a single month, as the Prime Minister himself noted yesterday.
Yet since taking office, Mark Carney has not permitted, much less started constructing, a single nation-building project. This is despite the fact that Conservatives helped them pass Bill C-5, which the Liberals promised would “realize our country’s full potential as an energy superpower as by creating new trade and economic corridors that diversify our economy.” Meanwhile, none of the laws blocking progress have been repealed.
Our nation is blessed with vast resources and incredible people. Even in these dangerous times, we can be the richest and most affordable country on earth. But that starts with ending the Liberal laws that have blocked our potential for the past decade. It’s time to make “Canada Strong” a reality, not just more rhetoric.
Last August, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre unveiled the Canadian Sovereignty Act: a detailed plan to make our country self-reliant and affordable by unlocking our immense economic potential – focusing on the things that we can control.
Along with repealing anti-development laws, Conservatives propose that the government incentivize hard work and investment through a reinvestment tax cut and “free trade bonuses” for provinces that open their markets to their fellow Canadians.
Importantly, the motion also takes steps to protect Canadian research and development, calling on the Minister of Industry to present a plan to Parliament to keep our intellectual property from being sold off.
Conservatives are ready to work with anyone, from any party, to make this happen. It’s time for the Liberals, and all Members of Parliament, to come together as Canadians and support today’s motion.
