Conservatives are cheering for the win that Carney promised Canadians.

Ottawa, ON – Today, the Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, sent a letter to Prime Minister Carney in the lead up to his meeting with President Trump, asking him to deliver on his promises and get relief on tariffs and Buy American policies:

Prime Minister,

Conservatives will always put Canada first. We restate our standing offer to help you keep your promise to “negotiate a win” on tariffs with the U.S.

We only ask that you keep your promise in this meeting with the President. You promised a deal by July 21, 2025. Still no deal. You promised to “negotiate a win” and now U.S. tariffs on Canada are twice as high as when you were elected saying you would get rid of them. You promised “elbows up”, but then caved on dollar-for-dollar countertariffs, the Digital Services Tax and more while winning nothing in return for Canada.

You promised jobs. Then killed 86,000 of them. You promised the “fastest-growing economy in the G7” and delivered the fastest-shrinking economy in the G7. Canadians suffering in your weak economy have no more time for you to bask in globe-trotting photo ops, handshakes and press conferences.

No more losing. It is time for you to deliver the promised wins:

  • Get U.S. tariffs off Canadian softwood lumber as Prime Minister Harper negotiated within 80 days of taking office. They have more than doubled since you took office. Time for the promised win for suffering lumber workers, mills and towns.
  • Get U.S. tariffs off Canadian steel, aluminum, copper and autos–tariffs that have doubled since you took office. Time for your promised win to reverse the damage.
  • Get rid of Buy American rules that discriminate against Canadian builders, like you promised.
  • Get rid of all other U.S. tariffs.

We only expect you to keep your promises. If you only return with excuses, broken promises and photo ops, you will have failed our workers, our businesses and our country.

I am always happy to help because we all must put Canada ahead of our parties.

Best wishes in Washington, Prime Minister. We are all cheering for a big win for Canada.
