Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, released the following statement on Italian Republic Day:

“On the Festa della Repubblica, Italians across that historic peninsula display their national pride. Seventy-nine years after their fateful postwar referendum, the nation that gave the world Dante, Pavarotti, Caboto and da Vinci is now Canada’s G7 and NATO partner – with billions in annual trade.

“As we mark Italian Heritage Month here in Canada, we have a chance to celebrate a community that has built and enriched our country for generations. Canada today is home to over half a million Italian speakers – and to a much larger community connected by culture and descent.

“Because of this, Italian cuisine, art and music are known and appreciated from coast to coast to coast. Leaders of Italian heritage, like Senator Con di Nino, broadcaster Johnny Lombardi and police chief Julian Fantino have shaped both their own community and our nation’s collective future.

“On behalf of all my Common Sense Conservative colleagues, I want to send my warmest wishes to one of Canada’s truly extraordinary communities as we join them in marking Italian Republic Day and Italian Heritage Month!”
