Robert received a B.Sc. from the University of Manitoba and a Masters degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He started his career in fisheries management, and went on to enjoy extensive experience in agricultural and rural policy analysis and development.
He has operated a grain and oilseed farm, a small outfitting business, and carried out consulting work in the areas of environmental assessment and resource management.
In all of these activities, Robert has earned a solid reputation as an outspoken advocate for Manitoba’s rural communities. He has a very strong knowledge about the workings of government and industry, having held senior positions in both.
First elected to the House of Commons in a by-election in 2010, Robert most recently served as a Member on two Standing Committees — Environment and Sustainable Development, and Fisheries and Oceans.
Robert and his wife, Caroline, live in the Sandy Lake, Manitoba area. He and Caroline have two children and a granddaughter.
