Jim graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School and practiced law for more than twenty years before entering public life.
He represented Whitby as Member of Provincial Parliament, serving as Deputy Premier, Minister of Finance, Attorney General and Minister of Labour.
He was first elected to the House of Commons in 2006. Since then he has served as Minister of Finance. He is a Governor of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. Euromoneymagazine named him Finance Minister of the Year in 2009.
Jim’s wife, Christine Elliott, represents Whitby-Oshawa as Member of Provincial Parliament. They have triplet sons.
