Born and raised in British Columbia, John attended Osgoode Hall Law School and Harvard University. He is multilingual — with the ability to speak English, Mandarin and French.
John worked as a lawyer in Canada and Taiwan, founding law firms in both countries. He is a founder of the Pan Pacific Law Corporation and Access Law Group — two successful, community-oriented Vancouver law firms. He also acquired diplomatic experience as he helped to establish Canada’s trade office in Taiwan.
First elected to the House of Commons in 2008, John most recently served as a Member on two House of Commons Standing Committees — Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, and Fisheries and Oceans.
Active in his community, John has served as a leader for the Beavers and Cubs, as well as an assistant soccer coach in West Vancouver. He is the past Chair of Canadian Food for the Hungry International. John also founded the Canadian Constitution Foundation to promote and uphold the rights of Canadians.
John, his wife Donna, and their three young children currently reside in West Vancouver.
