Member of Parliament
Rick has a long record of public service. He was only 25 when he was first elected to the St. Catharines City Council. He was chair of the Finance Committee that froze taxes for two consecutive years, an accomplishment that has not been matched since.
He worked in the Ontario provincial government in several roles, such as Director of Caucus Relations in the Office of the Premier and as Chief of Staff to the Minister of Community and Social Services.
Rick has also been a member of the Niagara Parks Commission and Chair of the St. Catharines Library Board.
He has a degree in Political Science from Brock University and a Master’s Certificate in Project Management from York University. For twelve years Rick was President of Dykstra Landscaping, a family business.
He was first elected to the House of Commons in 2006, and is now Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.
Rick and his wife, Kathy, are lifelong residents of St. Catharines and the proud parents of three children.
