John Carmichael grew up in Toronto, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from the University of Western Ontario. He went on to serve as Chairman and CEO of City Buick Pontiac Cadillac GMC Ltd.
The dealership has been family-owned and operated for 55 years. Just like many other organizations across Canada today, John’s businesses have faced challenges. However, he faced these challenges head on, and as a result of the many years of hard work and his strong relationships in the community, John has kept his business successful.
John takes pride in his strong commitment to community and family. Public service is important to him and he has volunteered extensively in Toronto and throughout Canada including serving as a member of the North York General Hospital Foundation Board, as a past President of Rowing Canada, Director of the Canadian Olympic Committee and numerous business boards.
John has also served as the Conservative candidate for Don Valley West since May 2005, finally achieving his goal and becoming the Member of Parliament for Don Valley West on May 2nd, 2011. John brings a strong Voice to Ottawa on behalf of all the constituents of Don Valley West. John will make a strong contribution to both the Industry Committee and the Ethics Committee to which he has been appointed. His many years as a business owner and leader will help bring practical knowledge and experience to the table while dealing with the many different issues addressed by these two committees.
John and his wife Kerry currently reside in Toronto and have three grown children: Christin, Michael and Julie. Christin and her husband Michael Greb have two boys; Harrison and Jackson. Michael and his wife Connie have a son and a daughter; John and Mackenzie.
