Gerry Ritz

Born in Delisle, Saskatchewan, Gerry was raised on the family farm. His family later moved to Rosetown, SK, where Gerry graduated from St. Joseph’s Separate School.

He worked in sales before returning to the family farm, where he farmed grain and later raised ostrich. He and his wife also owned and operated a general contracting business, in addition to running a weekly newspaper.

Long involved in provincial politics, Gerry was first elected to the House of Commons in 1997, and has been re-elected since. As an MP, Gerry has distinguished himself as a strong voice for agricultural interests and in August 2007, was named to the position of Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Minister for the Canadian Wheat Board. He had previously served as Secretary of State for Small Business and Tourism.

Gerry enjoys outdoor sports and tinkering with machinery. Gerry and his wife, Judy, have two adult children.
