Stop online government surveillance
Whereas the Carney Liberal government’s Bill C-22 gives Ottawa sweeping new powers to force tech companies and online businesses to assist government surveillance;
Whereas the Liberal Bill C-22 could allow the government to secretly order tech companies to create tools that turn on microphones and cameras, weaken encryption, and put Canadians’ private communications, financial information, and personal security at risk;
Whereas the Liberal Bill C-22 is overly broad and could apply to banks, online retailers, and countless businesses that Canadians rely on every day;
Whereas police need lawful tools to investigate terrorists, child predators, organized crime, and cybercriminals, but Canadians’ Charter rights, privacy, and freedoms must not be sacrificed in the process;
Whereas Conservatives will fight to amend Bill C-22 at committee to protect secure and private services for Canadians while ensuring police can lawfully investigate serious crimes.
Therefore, we the undersigned, stand with Conservatives in calling on the Carney Liberals to stop their big-brother surveillance agenda, protect Canadians’ privacy and freedoms, and fix Bill C-22.
