Protect Auto Workers in Canada
Whereas Prime Minister Mark Carney broke his promise to “put elbows up,” “negotiate a win,” and secure a deal with the U.S. by July 21, 2025;
Whereas since his October 7 meeting at the White House, Carney returned home with higher U.S. tariffs on Canadian lumber, permanent tariffs on finished autos, and news that 3,000 Stellantis jobs in Brampton are now at risk;
Whereas Carney’s weakness abroad is costing Canadian jobs at home, with automakers like Stellantis, GM, and others investing billions in U.S. plants while Canadian workers are laid off by the thousands;
Whereas more than 700 workers at GM Oshawa, 500 at CAMI Ingersoll, and 150 at Stellantis have already lost their jobs, and more than $10 billion in taxpayer subsidies were promised to Stellantis without securing guarantees to protect Canadian jobs;
Whereas since Prime Minister Carney took office, 97,700 more Canadians are unemployed and key sectors like auto, lumber, steel, and agriculture continue to decline;
Therefore, we the undersigned call on Prime Minister Carney to keep his word, not leave any Canadians behind, and deliver a win for auto workers.
