No To Automatic Citizenship for Descendants of Temporary Residents
Whereas a decade of Liberal mass immigration policy has broken Canada’s immigration system.
Whereas Canada is one of the only countries in the world that allows the descendants of visitors and temporary residents born on Canadian soil to automatically become citizens.
Whereas with over three million temporary residents and half a million undocumented persons now living in Canada, continuing to allow temporary residents’ descendants to automatically claim citizenship will deeply impact Canada’s immigration system, housing, jobs, and social services.
Whereas without immediate reform, Canada risks inviting further abuse by those seeking to overstay their visas, commit fraud, birth tourism, and further clog our overwhelmed bureaucracy.
Whereas immigrants aren’t to blame for wanting better lives: it is the Liberals’ fault for breaking our system and allowing people into Canada too fast for housing, healthcare and jobs to keep up.
Whereas only Conservatives will restore the value of Canadian citizenship and the immigration consensus that the Liberals broke by fixing our broken immigration system and setting clear rules.
Therefore, we the undersigned call on the government to require at least one parent to have citizenship or permanent residency in order for Canadian citizenship to be automatically granted, just like in peer countries, like the UK, France, Germany, New Zealand, and Australia.
