Make Carney Answer for Liberal Deficits
Whereas Mark Carney and the Liberals continue to drive up the cost of government and the cost of living for Canadians;
Whereas interest payments on the national debt have more than doubled since 2021, making debt interest one of the government’s fastest-growing expenses;
Whereas the Liberal government now spends more on interest on the national debt than it transfers to provinces and territories for health care;
Whereas an average family of four will pay nearly $6,000 in federal taxes toward interest on the national debt this year, based on Parliamentary Budget Officer figures;
Whereas Mark Carney promised to reduce the debt-to-GDP and deficit-to-GDP ratios.
Therefore, we, the undersigned, call on Prime Minister Mark Carney to appear before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance to answer questions about his government’s deficit spending and explain how he will save Canadians money by cutting deficits, debt interest costs and taxes.
