No Social Assistance for Illegal Immigrants

Whereas an Ontario Social Benefits Tribunal ruled that a person living in Canada illegally is eligible for Ontario Works social assistance;

Whereas Canada’s immigration system is based on fairness, respect for the law, and the expectation that newcomers become self-sufficient and contribute to their communities;

Whereas providing taxpayer-funded social benefits to those living in Canada illegally risks undermining public confidence in Canada’s immigration system and social safety net;

Therefore, we the undersigned stand with Conservatives in calling on the Liberal government to support provincial efforts to prevent illegal immigrants from receiving taxpayer-funded social assistance and to uphold a fair, lawful, and sustainable immigration system.
