Scrap the Carney Condo Bailout
Whereas after eleven years of Liberal government, Canadians face higher costs, higher taxes, and fewer homes;
Whereas Mark Carney’s plan would use taxpayer dollars to purchase more than 2,200 unsold condominium units in British Columbia, benefiting developers, banks, and investors without adding a single new home to Canada’s housing supply;
Whereas taxpayers should not be forced to subsidize vacant condos that British Columbians cannot afford at current prices;
Whereas housing construction is slowing, with housing starts and building permits declining, while government forecasts show homebuilding falling further despite Liberal promises to increase supply;
Whereas excessive government fees, development charges, restrictive zoning, and permitting delays continue to drive up housing costs and hinder new construction.
Therefore, we the undersigned stand with Conservatives in calling on Carney to scrap his tax-funded condo bailout and instead remove barriers to homebuilding, lower costs, and make housing affordable for Canadian families.
