Carney Liberals Must Condemn Forced Labour in China

Whereas Mark Carney has refused to clearly state whether Uyghur forced labour exists in the People’s Republic of China, offering only vague generalities;

Whereas Mélanie Joly has avoided directly addressing concerns about forced labour in Chinese imports and deferred responsibility to regulators;

Whereas Parliament, including Liberal MPs, voted in 2021 to recognize the genocide of Uyghurs, including forced labour by the People’s Republic of China;

Whereas conflicting statements from Liberal representatives and a lack of clear action risk undermining Canada’s human rights commitments and economic interests;

Whereas a U.S. Section 301 investigation into Canada’s enforcement of forced labour laws threatens Canadian exports.

Therefore, we the undersigned stand with Conservatives in calling on the Carney Liberals to give Canadians a straight answer on Uyghur forced labour in China.
