Free Trade for Canadian Beer, Wine, and Spirits

Whereas the Liberal government promised Canadians “One Canadian Economy” with a plan to remove barriers to internal trade and allow businesses to sell their products anywhere in Canada by Canada Day 2025;

Whereas the Liberals have shown this is another illusion given Canadians still face internal trade barriers that prevent them from purchasing wine, beer and spirits directly from producers in other provinces;

Whereas current federal rules prevent Canada Post from delivering alcoholic beverages across provincial borders, limiting shipments to within the same province;

Whereas these restrictions can make it easier for Canadian producers to ship alcohol to foreign countries than to other provinces within Canada;

Whereas removing these barriers would support Canadian wineries, breweries and distilleries, expand consumer choice and strengthen Canada’s economy;

Whereas Conservative Bill C-262 would amend federal rules to allow Canada Post to pick up and deliver beer, wine and spirits directly to Canadians across provincial borders.

Therefore, we the undersigned call on the Liberal government to pass Conservative Bill C-262 and amend federal rules so Canada Post can deliver beer, wine and spirits directly to Canadians across provincial borders.
