Don’t Silence the Watchdog

Whereas the Parliamentary Budget Office provides independent fiscal oversight and transparency for Canadians;

Whereas the term of Interim Parliamentary Budget Officer Jason Jacques expired on March 2, leaving the office without leadership and unable to fully carry out its oversight role;

Whereas during his tenure Mr. Jacques raised serious concerns about Canada’s fiscal trajectory, government accounting practices, and the lack of credible plans to meet key housing targets;

Whereas strong, independent scrutiny of government spending is essential for accountability and sound public finances;

Therefore, we the undersigned call on Mark Carney to immediately appoint Jason Jacques as the permanent Parliamentary Budget Officer and ensure the Parliamentary Budget Office can continue its vital watchdog role.
