End Liberals’ Virtual Citizenship Ceremonies
Whereas in-person citizenship ceremonies are a unifying and essential part of Canada’s civic life, reflecting the solemn responsibilities taken on by new Canadians;
Whereas over half of new citizens recently obtained citizenship by clicking a box online, a practice that undermines the dignity and communal significance of the oath;
Whereas virtual ceremonies have been maintained for bureaucratic convenience despite opportunities to restore the traditional in-person process;
Whereas Conservatives believe it is time to end one-click citizenship and uphold the full meaning of the citizenship oath.
Therefore, we the undersigned stand with Conservatives in calling for the Liberal government to restore in-person citizenship ceremonies for every new Canadian.
