Restore Freedom and Choice for Natural Health Products

Whereas the Liberal government made sweeping changes to the Food and Drugs Act through Bill C-47 that threaten the availability and affordability of natural health products such as vitamins, protein powders, probiotics, and supplements that millions of Canadians depend on every day;

Whereas a majority of Canadians rely on these products to support their health and wellness, and the previous regulatory framework already kept Canadians safe without excessive red tape;

Whereas the government’s new rules create unnecessary bureaucracy, raise costs for consumers, and risk driving Canadian supplement businesses out of the market;

Whereas Conservatives have listened to the concerns of Canadians and the natural health industry, and are continuing the work begun with Bill C-368 in the last Parliament to restore freedom of choice and protect access to safe, affordable natural health products;

Whereas Bill C-224, introduced by Conservative MP Blaine Calkins, will reverse the damaging Liberal amendments made in Bill C-47, reduce regulatory burden, and protect both consumers and Canadian jobs;

Therefore, we, the undersigned join the Conservatives to call upon the Liberal government to:

1. Support and swiftly pass Bill C-224;
2. Reverse the harmful changes made in Bill C-47 to the Food and Drugs Act; and
3. Protect Canadians’ continued access to safe, affordable, and effective natural health products while safeguarding the competitiveness of Canadian businesses.
