END THE TEMPORARY FOREIGN WORKER PROGRAM

Whereas Mark Carney and the Liberals have issued over 105,000 Temporary Foreign Worker permits in just six months and are on track to issue the highest number of permits in Canadian history;

Whereas a Conservative Order Paper Question revealed that the Liberals spent $1.6 billion in taxpayer money over five years, including $509 million in net costs, to administer and subsidize the Temporary Foreign Worker program;

Whereas there are 442,000 unemployed youth in Canada, youth unemployment is at its highest level in more than 25 years outside the pandemic, and hundreds of thousands of Canadians cannot find work;

Whereas the Temporary Foreign Worker program suppresses wages, undermines working conditions, and eliminates entry-level opportunities that Canadians need to gain experience and build careers;

Whereas Canadian jobs should go to Canadian workers, not to a system that benefits large corporations while leaving Canadians behind.

Therefore, we the undersigned, call on the Carney Liberals to end the Temporary Foreign Worker program, stop issuing new Temporary Foreign Worker permits, and restore a fair deal for Canadian workers, while maintaining a dedicated program for legitimately hard-to-fill seasonal jobs in the agri-food and fisheries sectors.
