Cancel the Loan

Whereas Mark Carney promised that “Canadians will be our own best customer.”

Whereas it has been discovered that Liberals were providing a $1 billion low-interest loan to BC Ferries for the purchase of vessels from a company owned by the communist regime in Beijing from the Canada Infrastructure Bank: Whereas the Liberals’ financing of foreign ferries will ensure Canadian workers continue to lose out;

Whereas the Canadian government should never incentivize outsourcing Canadian jobs at the expense of our workers;

Whereas Canadian workers are ready to build the ships we need, but our industry can’t compete with foreign state-backed shipbuilders that undercut on environmental standards, worker safety and wages;

Whereas building these ferries in Canada would create much-needed demand for our steel and provide good-paying jobs right here at home.

Therefore, we the undersigned, call on the Liberal government to cancel the loan for vessels made in the Beijing state-owned shipyard and ensure that Canadian tax dollars are putting our shipbuilders, workers and industry first.
