Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Ed Fast, Conservative Shadow Minister for Innovation, Science & Industry, Raquel Dancho, Conservative Shadow Minister for Public Safety, and Pierre Paul-Hus, Conservative Shadow Minister for Public Services and Procurement, released the following statement calling on Justin Trudeau to ban Huawei from Canada’s 5G infrastructure and tell Canadians when the Liberal government will finally make a decision on this critical national security issue:

“For years, security experts, allied countries, the House of Commons, and Canadians have called on Justin Trudeau to do the right thing and ban Huawei from Canada’s 5G infrastructure. Instead of taking action and showing leadership on this file, the Liberal government has dragged its feet.

“All of Canada’s Five Eyes allies have either banned or severely restricted the use of Huawei in their 5G infrastructure due to concerns that such technology could be used for espionage purposes and undermine our broader security and economic interests. There is no reason why Justin Trudeau has waited years to make a decision.

“This lack of action by the Trudeau Liberals on this decision is an international embarrassment and has severe consequences for our international standing and our critical relationships with our allies. It’s time for the Liberals to stop breaking their promises on making a decision regarding Huawei’s involvement in Canada’s 5G infrastructure. Canada’s Conservatives are calling on Justin Trudeau to stand up for Canadian interests at home and abroad, ban Huawei from Canada’s 5G infrastructure, and tell Canadians what date they will be making this decision.

“Only Conservatives will put the interests of Canadians first and stand up for national security, at home and around the world.”
