Trudeau government must hold Iranian regime accountable
May 1, 2019
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON – The Honourable Erin O’Toole, Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, Pierre Paul-Hus, Shadow Minister for Public Safety, Border Security, and Emergency Preparedness, and Garnett Genuis, Deputy Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, released a statement calling on the Trudeau government to list Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization:
“On June 11, 2018 the House of Commons passed a Conservative motion calling on the Government of Canada to immediately list Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist entity. Despite voting in support of it, the Liberals have failed to take action against this brutal regime.
“The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has terrorized the people of Iran for decades and openly declared support for other terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah and Hamas, and this regime cannot be allowed to further perpetrate anti-Semitic crimes and coordinate attacks against Canada’s allies. The fact that Justin Trudeau has done nothing about this is just another example of his weakness and poor judgment on the world stage.
“That’s why Conservatives have launched a petition at ListThemNow.ca inviting Canadians to join the call for the Trudeau government to immediately list the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist entity. Particularly in light of Iran Accountability Week, we must continue to condemn the Iranian regime for presenting a direct threat to international security and sponsoring terrorism abroad, and for its direct involvement in the murder, torture, and incarceration of Canadian citizens.
“Conservatives believe in the protection of fundamental rights of freedom of conscience and religion, and in the immutable dignity of all human beings. Now is the time for Justin Trudeau to finally follow the clear will of Parliament expressed in June 2018 and immediately designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist entity under the Criminal Code.”
