FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON – Phil McColeman, Shadow Minister for Veterans Affairs, issued a statement following reports that the Trudeau government is once again failing to support our veterans:
“Instead of helping our brave men and women get access to emergency assistance, we have today learned through the media that case managers at Veterans Affairs are referring our veterans to seek emergency help from outside agencies.
“There is already an established government relief fund to help our veterans. It is absolutely unacceptable that veterans requiring assistance, especially due to emergency situations or the Trudeau government’s backlog in benefit payments, are not being given access to the resources and services available to them.
“Under Justin Trudeau’s watch, the number of veterans waiting for disability benefits has ballooned to more than 29,000, with one-third of veterans waiting over four months for the benefits owed to them. The Trudeau government’s failures are placing veterans in vulnerable financial situations to require emergency assistance.
“Andrew Scheer’s Conservatives believe in providing the best possible services for veterans and their families, and will continue to call on Justin Trudeau to do the same when he fails to do so.
