OTTAWA, ON – The Honourable Erin O’Toole, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and of the Official Opposition, issued the following statement on Latin American Heritage Month:
“This October, Canadians from coast to coast will once again celebrate Latin American Heritage Month. The occasion presents an opportunity to recognize the invaluable contributions of Canadians of Latin American descent who have helped build our country despite all the challenges.
“While this year many Latin American festivals were held virtually due to the pandemic, they were nonetheless festive and brought joy and entertainment to thousands of Canadians across the country. During lockdown earlier this year, we saw the resilience of Latin American communities, which came together to provide food, PPE and other necessities to their neighbors and those in need.
“Conservatives have always celebrated our strong and hard working communities, which form the backbone of our neighborhoods. And we are proud that the sponsor of the Bill to establish Latin American Heritage Month in Canada was our late Conservative Senator Tobias Enverga, who was a vocal advocate for diversity and multiculturalism in Canada and who dedicated his life to building bridges between communities.
“On behalf of Canada’s Conservatives, please accept my best wishes for a meaningful and cheerful Latin Heritage Month.”
