The Hon. Andrew Scheer, the Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, Issues Statement to Celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival OTTAWA – OCTOBER 4, 2016 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The Leader of the Official Opposition, the Hon. Andrew Scheer, issued the following statement to mark Mid-Autumn Festival or Moon Festival: “This evening, we join Canadians of Chinese, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese heritage, under the full moon to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. “Dating back centuries, this celebration is associated with fertility, rejuvenation, and to express gratitude for a bountiful harvest. Tonight, families and loved ones will gather under the full moon to light beautiful lanterns, exchange gifts and stories, and share traditional foods like mooncakes and songpyeon. “In the upcoming days, communities across Canada will also host joyous celebrations with live performances, fun activities, and delicious food for the entire family. “I encourage all Canadians to participate in these community celebrations with our Asian friends and neighbours, and learn more about this holiday. “On behalf of the Conservative caucus, I would like to offer my warmest wishes to everyone celebrating a joyous and peaceful Mid-Autumn Festival!” -30- For more information: Anthony Farrow (613) 995-9054 [email protected] Daniel Schow (613) 286-1050 [email protected]
