FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Andrew Scheer, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives, issues the following statement on the Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising:
“Today marks the 75th Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, which began on August 1, 1944 and lasted 63 days. The uprising by the Polish underground resistance, led by the Polish Home Army, was a brave effort to liberate Poland’s capital from German occupation. Though the uprising was ultimately defeated, for those 63 days, Canada’s Polish friends and allies fought the German Army, inflicting numerous losses of troops and resources.
“Today we pay tribute to the people of Warsaw, both the combatants and the civilian population, who demonstrated an inexhaustible willingness to sacrifice all to preserve their freedom, independence, and the right to a sovereign future.
“On behalf of Canada’s Conservatives, I encourage all Canadians to learn more about the history of World War II and the sacrifices made by the ‘greatest generation’ in defeating tyranny.”
