Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Andrew Scheer, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and of the Official Opposition, issued the following statement to mark Eid al-Adha:

“Tomorrow, Canadian Muslims across the country will celebrate Eid al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, marking Abraham’s obedience to God even to the point of being willing to sacrifice his son.

“One of two key dates celebrated worldwide in the Muslim calendar, Eid al-Adha also marks the conclusion of the Hajj. While Hajj pilgrimage was significantly limited this year due to COVID-19, it did not undermine people’s faith and hope for a brighter future.  I hope that all Muslim Canadians will be able to gather in small groups to share festive meals, exchange gifts and greetings and participate in virtual celebrations.

“On behalf of Canada’s Conservatives, I extend my best wishes for a blessed Eid al-Adha to Muslims across the country.

“Eid Mubarak!”
