Ted Laking was born and raised in Dawson City, Yukon. After completing his degree at Vancouver Island University in 2009, Ted worked as a senior advisor to several Federal Ministers. As the Director of Communications and Acting/Chief of Staff to the Environment Minister he played a key role in developing Canada’s climate change targets and in the planning and implementation of Canada’s Chairmanship of the Arctic Council, which culminated the hosting of Foreign Ministers from Arctic Nations in Iqaluit in 2015.
For his contributions to the 2014 Victoria Strait Expedition, which successfully discovered HMS Erebus, Ted was awarded the prestigious Erebus Medal by the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. In 2016 Ted became the only Yukoner inducted into the College of Fellows for the RCGS.
Ted is currently Chief of Staff to Yukon’s Official Opposition and lives in Whitehorse with his wife and son.
