OTTAWA, ON – The Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and the Official Opposition, the Hon. Andrew Scheer, issued the following statement on Sikh Heritage Month:

“I am pleased to join Canada’s Sikh Community and Canadians across the country in celebrating Sikh Heritage Month.

“The Sikh community in Canada has demonstrated values of compassion, service, equality, and respect – values that are cherished and upheld by all Canadians and contribute to the growth and advancement of our pluralistic society.

“During my trip to India last year, I had the privilege to observe the rich culture of Sikh heritage. Throughout the month of April, all Canadians have the opportunity to reflect on and learn about the rich culture, arts, and profound heritage of the Sikh faith. Events will be held in communities across the country this month showcasing and celebrating the deep traditions of Sikhism, including Vaisakhi celebrations and Khalsa Day parades.

“The Sikh community in Canada has demonstrated values of compassion, service, equality, and respect – values that are cherished and upheld by all Canadians and contribute to the growth and advancement of our pluralistic society.

“Canada is proud to be home to one of the largest and most actively engaged Sikh populations in the world and we are thankful for the significant contributions that the Sikh community has made to our great country.

“This Sikh Heritage Month, I encourage all Canadians to share in and experience the history and culture of the Sikh faith.”
