Scheer Statement on Liberal Cover-Up at the Justice Committee Meeting
March 12, 2019
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Quebec City, QC – The Honourable Andrew Scheer, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and the Official Opposition, issued this statement following today’s emergency meeting of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights:
“Today at the Justice Committee Liberal MPs once again used their majority to protect Justin Trudeau and cover-up his involvement in this corruption scandal by refusing to allow former Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould to testify. They shut down the committee, without any debate.
“Last month, Ms. Wilson-Raybould provided clear and convincing testimony that there was sustained, inappropriate and unethical political pressure put on her by the Prime Minister and his officials.
“As extraordinary as her testimony was, we cannot forget that Justin Trudeau is using his power and his office to ensure we don’t hear the rest of the story. Ms. Wilson-Raybould could not answer direct questions regarding meetings and interactions after the Prime Minister fired her, which she herself acknowledged were relevant.
“Canadians continue to have legitimate questions about this scandal. Justin Trudeau has again today, prevented them from getting answers. These are the actions of a man with something to hide.
“Conservatives will continue to push to get answers and Canadians can help. We’ve launched www.letherspeak.ca, where Canadians can go to tell Justin Trudeau to stop this cover up. Canadians deserve nothing less.”
