Scheer Statement on House of Commons Marathon Voting Session
March 21, 2019
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Toronto, ON – The Honourable Andrew Scheer, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and the Official Opposition, issued the following statement on the marathon voting session underway in the House of Commons:
“Over the last 24 hours, Justin Trudeau and the Liberals have made clear to Canadians just how far they will go to cover-up the truth of the SNC-Lavalin corruption scandal.
“After defeating a Conservative motion calling on Mr. Trudeau to waive privilege and confidence to finally allow Jody Wilson-Raybould to speak, the Liberals are continuing their SNC cover-up throughout a marathon voting session in the House of Commons.
“All Mr. Trudeau has to do, at any point during these votes, is agree to waive privilege and let Ms. Wilson-Raybould speak. But he has not. With the help of his Liberal MPs, he continues to silence her and cover-up his corruption.
“As Ms. Wilson-Raybould has previously said, and as former Treasury Board President Jane Philpott confirmed today, there is much more to this scandal that Canadians need to know.
“Conservatives will keep using every tool at our disposal to get answers. I am looking forward to the Ethics Committee’s new investigation into this matter that will begin next week.
“Canadians must hear from all the players involved in this corruption scandal and I urge Mr. Trudeau and his office to co-operate with the new investigation.”
