Rona Ambrose, the Leader of the Official Opposition, issues statement on Vesak
Ottawa – May 21, 2016
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Rona Ambrose, Interim Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and Leader of the Official Opposition, issued the following statement marking the celebration of Vesak:
“Vesak, also known as ‘Buddha Day’, is the most sacred day of the year for Buddhists across Canada and around the world. Vesak celebrates the birth, enlightenment, and the passing of the Buddha.
“During Vesak, many Buddhists will celebrate by helping the needy, praying in temples, and practicing Buddha’s teachings of peace, kindness, and compassion. For Buddhists, this annual festival is an opportunity to reflect on the teachings of the Buddha, which are symbolized by the Dharma Wheel.
“I encourage all Canadians to use this occasion as an opportunity to recognize the important contributions of Buddhist-Canadians to building a prosperous and diverse Canada.
“On behalf of the Conservative Caucus, I would like to offer my best wishes to everyone celebrating Vesak.”
