Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Candice Bergen, Deputy Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and the Official Opposition, and Gérard Deltell, House Leader of the Official Opposition, issued the following statement after the Liberals with their partners in the NDP passed a motion to make Parliament hybrid:
“Today, the Liberals with their partners in the NDP voted to reduce accountability in the House of Commons. This is just more proof that the Liberal-NDP coalition is alive and well.
“By voting for this motion, the Liberal-NDP coalition demonstrated that it has no interest in being accountable to Canadians.
“It’s disgraceful that Justin Trudeau couldn’t even be bothered to show up and vote for this anti-accountability motion. If he is willing to skip the vote on this motion, imagine what he will do in a hybrid Parliament.
“Canadians are rightly concerned about the economic impact of the Liberal-NDP coalition. For people who are already struggling with the inflation crisis in Justin Trudeau’s economy, this coalition will mean more costs and more labour shortages.
“Canada’s Conservatives are the only party fighting to protect Canada’s economy to tackle the rising cost of living, to protect our communities, and to protect Canadian workers. We will be the voice for the millions of Canadians left behind in Justin Trudeau’s economy.”
