Ottawa, ON – The Honourable Erin O’Toole, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives, issued a statement following a vote by Justin Trudeau and his Liberal government to cover up their failures in the years and months leading up to the fall of Afghanistan:

“Today, Justin Trudeau and his Liberal government voted to cover up documents that would tell the full story of their failure to act in the years and months leading up to the fall of Afghanistan.

“Unfortunately, this should come as no surprise. Justin Trudeau put his own political interests ahead of taking care of thousands of Canadians and Afghans. He chose an election for him over salvation for others.

“Despite their best efforts to orchestrate another cover-up, Justin Trudeau and his Liberal government will now have to explain why they failed to act. Canadians deserve answers about what could have been done in the years and months before this crisis peaked this summer, and what should be done now to make up for lost time.

“Conservatives will be a voice for those fleeing violence and persecution. We will never rest when there are people at risk because they wore a Canadian flag on their sleeve or their heart.”
